Your vagus nerve helps you respond to stress and return to restfulness and ease. Vagal toning means making conscious gentle stimulation to this nerve pathway through gentle movement, massage, breath and eye movements to optimise your ability to move from a high-stress (fight-flight response) or a shutdown frozen, depressed, fatigued state back to balance and homeostasis creating chronic health challenges such as migraines, chronic pain, inflammation.
Vagal toning allows us to consciously stimulate or soothe the vagus nerve which ultimately supports the balance of our autonomic nervous system into a state of homeostasis. When we look at the root cause of these symptoms, we recognise that they all come from a common source which is a dysregulation of your autonomic nervous system or your body’s innate stress response system - and this is regulated by the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve is our 10th cranial nerve which connects your brain and body – a a superhighway of communication that connects your brain, gut, heart, lungs, and digestive system as well as the small key muscles within and around your throat, face, ears and eyes. Through gentle activation, we can learn ways to consciously help support our nervous system to return to states of rest, ease, balance and homeostasis.
